Honorary Membership Criteria

Honorary Membership Criteria

Approved by WGRI Executive Board on November 3, 2018

The board receives recommendations for Honorary Membership to the Weavers Guild of Rhode Island, and votes to approve or reject such recommendations. For consistency and fairness, guidelines will help this board, and future boards, make decisions regarding these Honorary Memberships.

Benefit to the Recipient

The recipient receives recognition for her/his contribution to the guild and its mission. The recipient is allowed to vote, but is not required to pay dues.

Benefit to the Guild

The WGRI receives recognition as a guild with members known for their exceptional knowledge and skills, pertinent to our mission.

The guild receives recognition as an organization which values its members and their contributions.

The guild maintains connections, which is a part of what attracts people to join.

Honorary Membership Criteria

On Nov. 3, 2018, the board voted to establish three categories of Honorary Memberships.

Category One: Valued members who have moved away. These members would normally not continue their memberships and guild participation. An Honorary Membership recognizes their contribution, while allowing us to keep connected to them. The recipient must have been a longtime member; contributed significantly to the guild’s mission and be an active weaver.

Category Two: Living Treasures. This category is reserved for those who have shown extraordinary skill in weaving and the fiber arts. They have proved, above and beyond, their dedication to the guild and its mission through leadership, education, teaching, writing, and exhibiting.

Category Three: Silver Shuttle. This category is for longtime members who have held leadership and functional responsibilities in the guild. They continue to be active weavers, and they are in their 80s.

The Honorary Memberships will be awarded at the annual meeting.
