The Weavers' Guild of Rhode Island was founded in 1947. Our goal is to promote the understanding and practice of the art and craft of weaving both for its members and the public. We meet at Slater Mill.

BEWARE of email purporting to come from guild members asking for money because they were stranded. THIS IS A SCAM.

Meetings begin at 10:00 am with Guild business and move on to our speaker at 10:30. We will break for a brown-bag lunch about twelve. Everyone is welcome.

Laurie Bosman's ScarfLaurie Bosman proudly displays her newly completed runner, beautifully crafted in alpaca and silk with a traditional Scandinavian double weave technique known as Finnweave. Described by Mary Atwater as the national weave of Finland. One layer is plain weave, the other is a 4 shaft twill, so woven on 6 shafts. Finnweave is a hand-manipulated pick-up double weave technique, producing light figures on a dark ground on one side, and dark figures on a light ground on the other.

Jane Perkins' ScarfJane Perkins is shown working at the loom with her just completed 4 block summer and winter scarf on display in the foreground . The warp is 24/2 cotton and the wefts are a 20/2 pale turquoise cotton and a 41/2 dark turquoise wool & cotton blend. One block forms the border while the other three form the large, medium and small interior squares.

June Vinhateiro's Tea TowelsJune Vinhateiro shows her delight at completing her first weaving project ever. She's holding her lovely new tea towels, woven with cotton on four frames in a variety of twills and colors for a useful and elegant accent in any kitchen.
