Towel Day May 13, 2017

North Kingstown Library

Coordinated by Sally Rianhard

Sally Rianhard proposed a “towel day,” to be held in May 2017, to showcase the guild members’ handwoven towels.    The towel exhibit’s theme, at the North Kingstown Free Library, was based on Towel Day, an annual event held to honor author and satirist Douglas Adams, who wrote The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Towel Day is celebrated world-wide every year on May 25th. It was first held in 2001, shortly after Adams’ death. In The Hitchhiker’s Guide, Adams writes: “Don’t panic. A towel … is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.” To that, we can all agree! Thank you, Sally for your inspiring work.
